We are currently helping five impoverished communities around El Bejuco, Nicaragua get electricity using
micro-hydro turbines.

The project is being spearheaded by AsoFenix and Green Empowerment ; two organizations that have already
gained international recognition for their success in combating poverty throughout the world. The 2009 Energy
Globe Awards recognized Green Empowerment for their work in Nicaragua. Their Myanmar Solar Mobile Clinic
project implemented with Thai partner, Border Green Energy Team actually wins the Fire category as well as
the grand prize award at the gala. What we particularly like about these organizations is their history of
enabling communities in need to become independent of support from outsiders.

This project will provide renewable electricity to five impoverished communities in Nicaragua and empower these
communities to improve their economic, educational, and health conditions. Some goals of the project include:
installation of electricity for five schools and five health centers, installation of irrigation pumps for improved
nutrition through the growing of vegetables, diversify economies through the introduction of electricity, electrical
grids reaching 300 homes, building the capacity of local organizations and communities by giving them tools to
ensure long-term technical and financial independence and sustainability.
